10 Motivational Quotes To Help You Find Your Life Purpose

A couple of months ago I shared 10 of my favorite success quotes and sayings for 2015.  Today, because I am giving away Paulo Coelho’s book, The Alchemist, I wanted to share 10 of the motivational quotes that inspired me most after reading the book.

Before we get into the motivational quotes, I wanted to clarify why I am so inspired to give away this particular book:

I loved the book so much that I finished reading it within a 48 hour period.  Ever since finishing reading the book I was left a little shaken up because the idea of pursuing my dreams really put my life into perspective.  If you are interested in owning the book, why not join my giveaway, it’s free!

The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho is, I believe, a manifesto to remind you that it is your responsibility to go after your dreams (however big and scary they may seem) and find your life’s purpose.  What I love about this book is that through the telling of a “fictional tale,” Mr. Coelho is actually giving you hints on how to follow your dreams by paying attention to the coincidences around you (like opening a book on a random page that delivers the exact message you were needing to hear), amongst other spiritual concepts.

Another main message of this book, I believe, is also to find and live your life’s purpose.  And for that reason I thought it wise to curate 10 of these famous motivational quotes from the book for you.  Because, as I wrote last week, achieving your dreams is all about having the right mindset.  These 10 motivational quotes are just that–a new way to achieve your dreams and live your life.

So without further ado, here are my favorite gems of wisdom from this book.

My favorite motivational quotes from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho:

To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only real obligation (Tweet this!)

One of the greatest realizations I have had in my life is that my happiness is my responsibility.  That pretty much means that I always have the choice on how I feel and how I experience the world around me.  When you take this responsibility seriously you can move from being a victim of your circumstances and predetermined destiny into creating and forging your own destiny.

That’s what alchemists do. They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too (Tweet this!)

I love that airlines always tell you that in case of an emergency in which you have to wear oxygen masks, you must put your oxygen mask on before you can help anybody else.  That is not to say that you don’t care about children or elderly on a plane, it just means that when you help yourself first you are in a far better position to help others and make a positive impact in the world around you.

How will you care for yourself today?

This is why alchemy exists. So that everyone will search for his treasure, find it, and then want to be better than he was in his former life (Tweet this!)

Alchemy is a metaphor for the transformation that takes place when you become your best possible self.  The point is to follow that gravitational pull.

[People seek] the treasure of their personal legend, without wanting actually to live out the personal legend (Tweet this!)

Sometimes we are so caught up in our daily pursuits in life that we forget that life is happening right this very second.  When pursuing a goal or dream, the most important thing I have learned from this book is that the journey towards my goal is just as valuable as achieving the goal itself.

No heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity (Tweet this!)

As soon as I realized that I was missing out on the process and progress I was making towards my goals, I learned to savor the moment.  I learned to find joy in the process and in doing so I opened my heart to experience even more joy.  And so I found that my heard will never suffer in the pursuit of my dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.  Beautiful words.

Wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure (Tweet this!)

And so in finding that I could feel joy by savoring every moment in my life, I also realized that the treasure I had sought all along was always within me.  To chase after dreams is thus a paradox.  A beautiful paradox at that.

Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth (Tweet this!)

This passage made me question the very nature of the joy that comes from focusing in what I love.  If my joy can bring happiness to others, then, what if everything that makes me happy is really God wanting to make the world a better place?

To those still looking for their purpose in life, get out there and find what excites you.  When you find it you fill know that this was meant for you all along.

When we love, we always strive to be better than we are (Tweet this!)

This is something that I am learning about every day.  It reminds me of Carl Jung’s quote “where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking.”

Someone recently asked me about how it could be possible to think with your heart and feel with your mind.  The way I see it, the mind has usurped the heart’s wisdom with it’s addiction to power.  To let love rule means that we set aside our mind’s need for control and power for the sake of being the better person.

How are you being your best self?

I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you (Tweet this!)

Bah, I am a helpless romantic 🙂

It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting (Tweet this!)

Well, I don’t imagine I have to elaborate, or do I?

These inspirational quotes and motivational sayings pulled from the book, The Alchemist, are all about changing your perspective.  They are a sort of prescription on how to change your mindset about the way you live your life, pursue your dreams, and engage with others.  These are life quotes that should be treasured and contemplated upon.

I hope that you enjoyed them as much as I did.  If you would like to get the book for free, you can join my giveaway by clicking here.

  4. Hi Victoria. I had never heard of Paulo Coelho, but I absolutely love the name Paulo – very sexy. Just kinda rolls off the tongue. 🙂

Living in and enjoying each moment is a lesson I wish I had learned many years ago. Although I have had an absolutely wonderful life, I know that there were many moments wasted thinking that ‘life would be better when (fill in the blank)’. Now that I’m in the autumn of my life, I try more and more to enjoy each day. But it is easy to get caught up in work, work, work and say we don’t have time for other things. Thanks for sharing these quotes.

    All the best,

  5. I like this phrase “They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too”, it is so true. Without rising up, you stay at the same as everyone else and no one really advances in such a community. Thanks for the share Victoria

  9. Hi Victoria, I also like how on an aeroplane, they tell people to “help themselves” first. I often remind my daughter of that – she has 3 children and she always puts them first, no matter what. She forgets that if she doesn’t look after her own health or sleep, it’s going to be really hard for her to look after them!

  10. Great quotes. The Alchemist is on my list of books to read – – might have to check out your giveaway :). I believe that discovering your purpose is one of the most foundational things you can do. Everything stems from who you are and what your purpose is (which is why I teach what I teach :)). I firmly believe that our purpose is deeper than our passion, though (they can be connected, but they’re different things) so discovering what you’re passionate about or what excites you isn’t necessarily the whole story.

  13. Paolo Coelho is by far one of my favorite authors and his book The Alchemist is my top favorite book of all times. In fact, I have read this book twice in French and 4 times in English. It seems that every time I read it, I discover something new that escaped my eyes the time before. Thanks for reminding us of how important it is to follow our dreams and that everything is achievable. Have a great week! Houda.

  14. “Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth” I think once an individual figures out this quote and truly applies themselves, nothing can stop them to complete their mission and strive everyday to do something towards it! Such a great article:)

  16. Hi Victoria:

    I love this quote:

“Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth.”

It resonated with me because of its connection to the idea of consciousness.

  17. I loved reading The Alchemists and I loved the quote re destiny. if you do not discover what your unique path to destiny is, you will unknowingly set yourself up for settling for less than your heart’s desires, and may even experience a lifetime of aimless-ness and “looking for yourself where you are not.” You will never feel like the whole, complete, and confident human being you were meant to be.
